Structured new consulting practice around a new intellectual platform and managed the development of a supporting “cutting edge” business content site
Situation
In July 1997, Regis McKenna was about to publish his upcoming book Real Time. Real Time had numerous links (URLs Listed) and references to The McKenna Group’s website. However, very little had been done to develop consulting services and solutions to support the intellectual direction outlined in Real Time. At that point in time there was nothing even conceptually formulated to “productize” Real Time into an Intellectual platform or consulting services. In addition, there was nothing on The McKenna-Group website to support, enhance or extend the concept of Real Time that was predicated on the advances of communication and the Internet. There was a need to get something done quickly and effectively to develop a “new” type of site to extend the concept and reach of Real Time as well as develop a consulting practice around the intellectual premise outlined. I was chartered with spearheading these efforts.
However, there were little funds and resources available. The develop process needed to be quickly, cost effectively and with a high degree of professionalism.

Action Plan
Getting a partner group of a consulting organization to act and move quickly and decisively can be a significant challenge in itself, but having three and a half years experience as a senior consultant and significant business experience halped. My action plan was to quickly devise a workable plan with a series of small and manageable steps, to demostrate sucess and facilitate buy-in.
- Outlined plan to address immediate needs and then process moving forward
- Worked with lead McKenna Group partners to formulate and drive intellectual platform regarding future Real Timeservices
- Oversaw and direction site development partner
- Managed very difficult process and partners to accomplish development goals
- Spearheaded development of very unique and differentiated content and user interface
- Personally involved with content development and structure, including selecting, arranging and conducted live interviews with established business leaders that were published on the site
- Managed and maintained project budget and administration details
- Spearheaded partnerships with technology companies and a number of creative companies that supported Real Timeconcepts
- Drove McKenna Group partners to develop industry points-of-view that helped create brand differentiation

Results
- Developed the first and most unique content site for any strategic consulting firm in the industry
- Only site developed around an intellectual platform
- Only site to support intellectual platform with real life examples
- First site to use the Internet as a platform for furthering Intellectual platform
- First Strategy site to leverage full capabilities of the Internet
- Delivered a total of five releases (major website additions/enhancements) on time and on budget
- Received glowing recommendations on the content and design of the site from distinguished business leaders
- Created working partnerships with technology players for future engagements
- Success with Real Time site drove request to strategically formulate plan for McKenna Group Intranet Site.
